The Happy Talk Project
The Happy Talk Project is a two-year programme being delivered across our group of schools to support service children, particularly those who experience frequent school moves. We know that transitions can disrupt learning and make it harder for children to settle, communicate confidently and keep up with reading and classroom expectations.
The project focuses on improving speech, language and communication, early reading and phonics and children’s confidence and wellbeing. Staff across the schools are receiving specialist training and supervision so that needs can be identified early and support put in place quickly. This includes access to speech and language expertise, educational psychology support and improved reading resources, particularly for younger children and new arrivals.
By working together across schools, we aim to provide more consistent support for service children and smoother transitions when families move. The project is designed to build long-term capacity within schools so that children continue to benefit now and in the future.
The Happy Talk Project is funded by the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust, and we are grateful for their support in helping us improve outcomes for service children and their families.
